To become a notary in Nebraska, follow the steps listed below:

Order a four-year, $15,000 Nebraska notary bond.
The notary bond is required by the Nebraska Secretary of State to protect the public from notary’s errors. Our notary bonds include a complimentary four-year, $5,000 errors and omissions policy. Click here to purchase a notary bond.

Take and pass the Nebraska notary exam.
All first-time notary applicants are required to pass the Nebraska notary exam on Classmarker.com. If, after three attempts, you are not able to score 85% or higher, you will no longer be eligible to be a Nebraska notary public.

Take the oath of office.
The oath of office is part of the notary bond page and must be administered by a notary public. Scan and save the notarized oath of office as a PDF file. You will need to upload it when completing the application on the secretary of state’s website.

Complete a Nebraska notary application.
Log in or create an account on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website to complete a notary application. Once your notary application has been approved, you will receive an email instructing you to download your notary commission certificate from your account.
