How to Become a Nebraska Notary:

Compared to other states, Nebraska has few eligibility requirements to become a notary. The process is simple and affordable. Click here to view the eligibility requirements for becoming a notary in Nebraska.

To become a notary in Nebraska, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Order a four-year, $15,000 Nebraska notary bond.

The notary bond is required by the Nebraska Secretary of State to protect the public from notary’s errors. Our notary bonds include a complimentary four-year, $5,000 errors and omissions policy. Click here to purchase a notary bond.

  2. Take and pass the Nebraska notary exam.

All first-time notary applicants are required to pass the Nebraska notary exam on Classmarker.com.  If, after three attempts, you are not able to score 85% or higher, you will no longer be eligible to be a Nebraska notary public.

  3. Take the oath of office.

The oath of office is part of the notary bond page and must be administered by a notary public. Scan and save the notarized oath of office as a PDF file. You will need to upload it when completing the application on the secretary of state’s website.

  4. Complete a Nebraska notary application.

Log in or create an account on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website to complete a notary application. Once your notary application has been approved, you will receive an email instructing you to download your notary commission certificate from your account.

  5. Purchase notary supplies.

Notaries in Nebraska are required to use a notary stamp to authenticate all notarial acts they perform. All our Nebraska notary stamps and seals are made in house and come with a lifetime warranty. No questions asked! We will ship your notary supplies once we receive a copy of your Nebraska notary commission certificate. Click here to order a Nebraska notary package that includes your notary bond and notary supplies.
